Let’s talk about your limitations…

Dear Reader,

Whether you're a financial publisher, marketer or copywriter, I'm sure you can relate...

You see, today I came across a sexy "Big Idea" for a promotion.

It ticked many of the boxes on my checklist.

And it was something I'd love to write.

But half-way through my research, I went headfirst into a road block.

At that point I decided to hit the red X, close the window and move on to something else.

Usually I would just forget about it and move on to the next activity on my planner.

But not today.

Oh no!  Today -- and every day going forwards -- I'm working on ANNIHILATING my internal limiting beliefs.

And the one I encountered today was this...

If I come across any roadblock, small or large, I often just give up.

Why swim upstream when I could just go with the flow?

Now, I'll add a caveat here:  If someone is relying on me to perform, I always will.  But in this case, nobody was -- I was working for my own benefit.

In fact, I was just reading an article on Bloomberg when the "Big Idea" came to me -- like a flash of inspiration.

So I dived into the research and built the story out.

But then I hit the roadblock...

I couldn't find a stock to fit the narrative.

Yes, it was that small... (and yes, irrelevant as the editor will usually find the stock).

Yet it was enough to 'turn on' my limiting belief and cause me to exit the Google Doc.

But as I said above... today I'm working on defeating my limiting beliefs.

So as soon as I exited that page, I took a moment to check myself and then opened the Doc back up and got to work again.

I researched.

I dug a little deeper.

And there it was -- a company to fit the narrative I want to tell.

It was a win.

For two reasons.

Obviously, finding the stock game me a well-rounded promotion idea to pitch to any publisher.

But it was also the first offensive against the limitation I had placed on myself.

An offensive that didn't win the war -- but certainly turned the tide in my favor.

I know that just a few more 'wins' like that will lead to me elimination that limiting belief from my life, forever.

And it will also give me motivation to attack other beliefs which are holding back my success.

Maybe you can relate.

Has there been a time where you've held back your own brilliance for no logical reason?

Or a time when you've been on the verge of a huge person or professional breakthrough, and for some reason you just couldn't make it?

If so, the first step to overcoming it is to RECOGNIZE the limitation you've placed on yourself.

And then consciously work to correct it.

The best resource for this is a book called "The Big Leap" by Gay Hendricks.

(That's not an affiliate link, by the way.)

In it, Gay guides you to uncovering and conquering your own limitations... to take your life to the next level.

Enjoy it.
